Common Threads Quilt Guild Board Meeting
January 22, 2008
Present: Melissa Bailey, Karla Zadnik, Jovita Bailey, Judy Starr-Lintner,
Connie Bell, Jackie Jones, Jenny Myers, Vicky Price, Marsha Beane, Patty Merry,
Marty Rigo, Claire Paul
Treasurer's Report – Marty
We have new forms for getting paid back. We have a big surplus - $10,048. We
made some changes to the budget as written: Increased workshops to $800.
Increased Ways and Means to $300 (to allow $150 for the challenge). The quilt
show budget is increased to $1,000. We will continue to rent quilt racks from
CMQ.
Ideas for how to spend the money: a dinner, banquet, catered picnic, national
speakers, Ott lights for our retreats and workshops. Bring all ideas to the
February Board Meeting.
We will put $5000 in a CD for a rainy day or future project. We will put Vicky
Price on the bank account so she can sign for things on bus trips, etc. and
write checks to Marty. Every year the books should be audited.
Marty will start a new book and a simplified record keeping system. Quicken is
too complicated; we only write 25 checks a year. This is not enough for your
husband to be on the phone to India for tech support.
Program Schedule for 2008 - Melissa
Patty has it all listed on the website, with links to those national teachers
who have websites. We are most excited about Joe the Quilter coming in November.
He will do a program on Tuesday evening at our regular guild meeting, then a
workshop the next day. Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. A morning only
workshop. His specialty is "free motion hand quilting". Check out his website.
We are signing the contract this week. We have formal contracts now.
CMQ really liked partnering with us last time. We plan to do it once every year.
Workshops – Jackie
The second half of the One Block Wonder workshop is this Saturday. We should
have another workshop in the Spring. With the November Joe the Quilter Workshop,
that makes one every quarter. We should make the Spring one a service quilt
workshop, maybe in March on or about National Quilting Day. Jackie will work it
out with Jovita.
Welcome Committee – Judy
We will think about having door prizes again, since we have lots of money to buy
them.
Block Exchange – Jenny
Would like to encourage more participation this year. Will publish the
year's schedule to give people more time, even though we all do it the night
before. Email suggestions to Jenny.
Miscellaneous
Marty will update the website as members pay for 2008. Patty will print a
directory after March.
Vicky brought a Fat Quarter Lotto idea she found. Will get together with Jenny
and try this.
Melissa is making brochures about the guild with info about us and the year’s
schedule. They will be in shops, etc. to attract more quilters.
The next Board Meeting will be at 5:30 before the February guild meeting, on the
26th, here at the church. Jenny can let us in. Bring your dinner if you don’t
have time to eat it first.
