Common Threads Quilt Guild Board Meeting
February 26, 2008
Present: Karla Zadnik, Vicky Price, Marsha Beane, Kelley LaPlace, Judy
Starr-Lintner, Connie Bell, Jackie Jones, Jenny Myers, Patty Merry, Marty Rigo,
Melissa Bailey, Claire Paul
Workshops: No updates yet on Joe the Quilter workshop. Jackie will
confirm with the church and reserve the room for 8:30-12:30.
Sewing Day: March 15 at the church. Vicky has space for 24 people. It is
free. Suggested theme is try something outside your comfort zone, or help others
conquer their fears. But you can work on whatever you want.
Retreat: Connie is taking reservations. Members only, unless it doesn’t
fill up.
Bus Trip: Vicky has enough signed up to fill one bus already. The dates
are July 10, 11 and 12. You do not need to be a member. Jenny has the DVD from
last year. The Reunion was fun.
Block Exchange: Jenny will announce it at the March meeting. It
will be due in May.
Black/White/Bright Challenge: Lots of people have asked questions about
the rules. Connie will make up answers at the guild meeting. Quilts must be
labeled, but the name covered up. All the kits are sold out; if people decided
they won’t make one after all, they can sell them back for someone who didn’t
get one.
Quilt Show: Kelley is assembling a committee of volunteers. Marty gave
her some names from the registration forms. Kelley will call CMQ and rent racks.
Looking for a judge on the NQA website, asking Kaaren, Robin & Faith.
Treasurer’s Report: Marty distributed the Treasurer’s report for the last
2 months. We have 38 paid members. Marty will send Patty the list to update and
print a list. Marty will email her address to the members to send her a check by
March 15. Patty will try to add a field for AQS members, since we ask on the
registration form. Marty is buying a stamp "For Deposit Only Common Threads
Quilt Guild". We have money for Connie to purchase prizes for Challenge
participants.
Upcoming Meetings:
March – Mickey Depre – whimsical, fusible.
April - dinner and the challenge. Vicky and crew will create Taco Pie for
everyone! We’ll have the Board meeting in the kitchen so they can participate!
Our May Speaker, Penny Heron from Patchwork Dreams, contacted Melissa and
said her book will not be out yet, should she come at a later date? No, we can
just sign up to order her book.
2009 Programs: Vicky and Marsha have feelers out for programs. Marty’s
teacher from the cruise can do a workshop – quick ruler for flying geese. She
will give contact info to Vicky. Mary Huey – 2004 Teacher of the Year will do a
meeting and workshop. She is reasonable and in Ohio. Vicky Pignatelli would be
popular. Give any other leads to Vicky or Marsha.
Service Quilts: a new pattern? Marty has a sew & flip idea that is
quick and uses up strips. She can teach it and give away pattern at the
workshop. Jackie will talk to Jovita.
Website: Calendar on the website? Patty has to re-hook it in, if we want
to start using it again.
Kate Gorman Workshop: CMQ is doing a workshop with her. We can sign
up at their member price $40. April 19 from 9-3 at Columbus School for the Blind
– catered lunch. A great deal.
Melissa was contacted by a company who will give us packets of fusible shapes to
hand out to our members.
The next Board Meeting will be at 5:45 before the March guild meeting, March 25,
here at the church. Jenny can let us in. Bring your dinner if you don’t have
time to eat it first.
