Common Threads Quilt Guild Board Meeting
December 5, 2009
Attendance:
Vickie Price, Marsha Beane, Kelly LaPlace, Connie Bell, Janet Armstrong,
Jackie Jones, Robin Allen, Patty Merry, Marty Rigo, Gloria Scott-Tibbs,
and Bev Fuchs
Presidents’ Report:
- The Fat Quarter Lotto activity will continue next year, and responsibility
will move to the Ways and Means Committee.
- Vickie will introduce the Birthday Fat Quarters at the January
meeting. Participants buy in at the beginning of the year,
and the activity runs monthly for an entire year.
- Vickie will continue to maintain the Tip Board at every meeting.
- Vickie will also run the Block and Fabric Exchanges. The
guild notebook was passed on to her.
- Vickie/Marsha proposed Fabric Postcards as a fund raiser. They
could be created by guild members and sold at monthly meetings and
quilt shows.
- Proposal was made to combine Ways and Means with Membership. Kathy
and Marsha are Co-Committee Chairs.
Treasurer:
- The issue of advertising in the newsletter and on the website was
brought up. Quilt shops may be interested in paid advertising. Guild
members could advertise for free. Action item: guidelines
need to be developed.
- Board members and committee chairs have until January 11, 2010
to turn in their yearly budget figures into Marty. She
will present a 2010 budget report at the January 26 monthly meeting.
- Membership Dues:
- Only one person should update the Membership Database. Since
the Treasurer collects all membership dues, she should be the only
person adding and deleting members as they pay their dues in the
upcoming year.
- Patty will update the Membership Form with a date and cost of
$25 per year, $12.50 after 6 months and free for 75 years and older.
10th Anniversary Party:
- The date for celebration is March 20th, 2010, National Quilting
Day. It will be held at the Jeffrey Mansion. There are
several rooms available for different activities – workshop,
machine sewing, hand sewing. Action item: What is the
legal capacity of the establishment?
- The workshop with Mary Huey raised several unanswered questions.
- Action item: What should this cost? How much should
the guild subsidize? What is cost of Mansion, lunch, gifts
and workshop? Is this self-supporting or a fund-raiser?
- Connie is the Project Manager for the Party. Committee chairs
were assigned:
- Registration – Marty
- Refreshments – Vickie, Gloria to help with cake
- Gift Bags – Marsha, to include 10th anniversary pin, donations
from quilt shops, vendors
Challenge
- Connie is running the 2010 Challenge, to be announced at the January
26, 2010 meeting. Challenges are to be completed at presented
at the July 27th guild meeting.
- The theme is “Our 10th Anniversary – What does it
mean to you?” The size will be 20” x 20”. Participants
will be given a fat eighth of cream/white fabric to represent the “Common
Thread” between all of us and the Challenge quilts. Up
to 5 additional fabrics may be added.

Next Board Meeting
- January 26, before the guild meeting
Quilt Retreat
- There was discussion on the maximum number of participants at the
retreats and what process should be followed in case some were shut
out due to closed registration.
- Action item: Jackie will email a questionnaire to guild members
to see how many want/plan to attend the quilt retreat.
